Wiring nightmare

429 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Hans&Feet
I'm new to the forum and need some help badly. I have a 03 vtx 1800c that I've owned for several years and have had no problems but after sitting a couple of years it wont start so I've been going through the fuel system. After removing the tank and seat I've uncovered a nightmare of wiring splices and an aftermarket fuel programmer. What I need is a clear color coded wiring diagram so I can clean this mess up. Can anyone help me out please?

See if this older thread helps:

If your bike has been sitting for a couple years, with no issues of starting before the most likely cause is bad fuel. The fuel begins to oxidize and break down only after a few months and can result in clogging your fuel system. I would totally dump all your gas and replace with fresh fuel and some Techron for cleaning the fuel injectors.

How is the battery? If it hasn't been on a charger to keep it up to charge you may need a new one.

Clear color coded wiring diagram???
We have wiring diagrams that can be printed on large paper.
Office depot, Wally world and other prints shops.
I split some diagrams into two pieces and it works good enough for me.

I had a similar problem with my 1800, the shops that did some custom work for me back in 2006-2007 sliced and diced the harness in multiple places.

when I rebuilt the bike last summer I just got a new wiring harness, it was a lot easier than trying to deal with fixing the mess. $250 from partzilla. took about 4 hours to tear down, remove and replace. everything is connecter specific, so near impossible to screw up., but take pictures as you remove just in case.

I added another 02-04 1800C First Gen 1800 schematic with Green Ground wires.
There is a 14 pin Yellow connector for all the Green wires.
