As always the prep work is the most important step. A good scuff pad will work great on removing the chrome off plastic. Also the chose of plastic paint is just as important.
You can just scuff the chrome with some 600 sandpaper and water and spray some self etching primer to give the paint a good surface to bond to. Wet sand, clean, paint, wet sand, clean, clear coat. I didn't bother to final wet sand and buff my headlight, grill or neck covers and they look good.
painting some of the parts that are chrome, Black and yes I will be using rattlecan paint. in gloss black, Thanks to everyone that responded. The information is appreciated. Hard.
1. Scuff it good with 600 grit and clean it.
2. Apply a good adhesion promoter. Preferably the same brand as the paint you are using.
3. Apply 2 to 3 coats of self etching primer. Again the same brand.
4. Wet sand with 600 grit to smooth out and clean.
5. Apply color in several very light coats.
6. Apply at least 5 coats of clear. Same brand
At this point it will look ok but could be better.
7. Wet sand lightly with 1500 grit then again with 2000 grit and clean.
8. 2 choices here:
1. Apply a light coat of clear .
2. Polish with rubbing compound and again with polishing compound until you get a mirrorlike finish.
