I had a little over 15k on my 1300 as of last month and went by dealer and it was time to replace the back brake pad. It was recommended since I was leaving for a 1200 mile trip and pad thickness was about 1/8. I had the front replaced as well as I didn't want any braking problems.

pads depend on the gas........agressive riders use up more than
a reguler rider...if you get 12 to 15k on a set, thats pretty good...

 

The pads do have wear indicators on them. Shine a flashlight on them and you'll see it. As long as you haven't crossed over into the wear indicator area, you're good. It never hurts to put them on early, though.

 

Just like a car. It really does depend how you ride and or use the brakes. 14,000 on this set and they still look good.

 

Thanks everyone. I still have a little ways to go before that line (indicator). I really never go on really long trips and I am pretty easy on the brakes. I will wait a little now. It is nice to see what others are getting:thumbup:
